“Salute” – Molto Buono!

August 14, 2011

Today was the last day of the Taste of Hartford 2011. There were 30 participating restaurants throughout the City of Hartford, each offering their own special three course menu for only $23 per person! Whatever your “taste” – Italian, Mexican, Asian, Continental, Portuguese, Cajun, Japanese, Spanish, or Seafood – there was something for everyone!

On this rainy Sunday evening, my husband, Joe, and I decided to try Salute. Located diagonally across from  Bushnell Park, an appetizing surprise awaits you. From the moment you enter Salute, hospitality greets you. The staff is warm and friendly. The service is excellent! You cannot tell the owners from the wait staff! The high coffered ceilings and granite tiled wainscoting frame a fine dining experience.

What to order? For me, a Field Green Salad to start, Rose Pasta for the entrée and for dessert, a Tiramisu that rivaled my best Tiramisu! Joe ventured beyond his comfort zone this evening and had the Strawberry Salad, Shrimp Fra Diablo and Banana Bread Pudding! Everything was fantastic! Thank you Lisa for the great service. We will return to Salute again in the near future! Grazie and Buon Appetito!

Buildings A-Glow in Downtown Hartford!

December 9, 2010

My last stop this evening was at Bushnell Towers, a condominium complex across from Bushnell Park. Since I was so close to the park I decided to drive by on my way home. To my delight they were rehearsing the artistic light show for tomorrow’s Festival of Light celebration, “Lights, Skating, Santa Winter Festivities” at Bushnell Park.

Tucked away among the farms of South Glastonbury is a hidden gem – a family farm, the Cavanna Farm – where you can cut down your Christmas Tree.

DSCN0865

There are fields of beautiful firs and spruces for nearly every ceiling height.

When you find your perfect tree, just shout out, and someone will be right there with the chain saw and tractor to cart the tree to your vehicle.

Next to the “hut” is a display of beautiful wreaths for sale! Ribbon included!

If you haven’t bought your Christmas Tree yet, don’t worry, the Cavanna Farm has plenty of trees left, and a good selection to boot! Cavanna’s Farm is located at 80 Woodland St., South Glastonbury, CT 06073, just off of Hopewell Road.

The Cavanna Farm is a year round farm. Check them out in every season!

Hartfort Trivia Question & The 55th Annual Wesleyan Potters Exhibit and Sale

November 22, 2010

Hartford Trivia Question: Can you place that entrance way in the invitation above? Finish reading the blog to see the answer!

The day after Thanksgiving is always an exciting time year as everyone rushes out to retailers all over town in hopes of finding the perfect gift for that special someone. You’re sure to find just what you’re looking for at the Wesleyan Potters Exhibit and Show in Middletown, Connecticut. Since 1955, this exhibit has showcases some of the most amazing works from artists who specialize in various forms of craft making. The event is sponsored by a non-profit cooperative guild founded in 1948, called the Wesleyan Potters. This association, located right here in Connecticut, promotes the art of craft making. The association also offers year-round classes led by qualified artisans.

The Wesleyan Potters Exhibit will be held in the Gallery, which is a central part of the Wesleyan Potters’ guild. For the exhibition, the Gallery will feature various juried crafts from over two hundred artists specializing in pottery, jewelry, sculpting, weaving, and more. Want to know the best part? Admission is free and all of these originally crafted pieces of work are for sale!

The Grand Opening & Gala Celebration is on Friday November 26th, from 10:00a.m.-9:00p.m. If you can’t be there on opening night, don’t worry. The exhibit will be open until Sunday December 12th, so you will have over two weeks to find that special Christmas gift. After opening night, the exhibit will be open Saturday through Wednesday, 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., and Thursday and Friday, 10:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. For more information, be sure to visit the Wesleyan Potters’ official website.

If you have any questions about the Greater Hartford area or Greater Hartford Real Estate, be sure to contact me. I would love to hear from you!

Hartford Trivia Answer: It’s the entrance to 12 Charter Oak Place, aka “the Painted Lady,” the CT Children’s Medical Center Foundation.
