“Salute” – Molto Buono!

August 14, 2011

Today was the last day of the Taste of Hartford 2011. There were 30 participating restaurants throughout the City of Hartford, each offering their own special three course menu for only $23 per person! Whatever your “taste” – Italian, Mexican, Asian, Continental, Portuguese, Cajun, Japanese, Spanish, or Seafood – there was something for everyone!

On this rainy Sunday evening, my husband, Joe, and I decided to try Salute. Located diagonally across from  Bushnell Park, an appetizing surprise awaits you. From the moment you enter Salute, hospitality greets you. The staff is warm and friendly. The service is excellent! You cannot tell the owners from the wait staff! The high coffered ceilings and granite tiled wainscoting frame a fine dining experience.

What to order? For me, a Field Green Salad to start, Rose Pasta for the entrée and for dessert, a Tiramisu that rivaled my best Tiramisu! Joe ventured beyond his comfort zone this evening and had the Strawberry Salad, Shrimp Fra Diablo and Banana Bread Pudding! Everything was fantastic! Thank you Lisa for the great service. We will return to Salute again in the near future! Grazie and Buon Appetito!

A Tribute To Memorial Day

May 29, 2011

Memorial Day has its origins in the Civil War era and became an official holiday in 1868. Memorial Day was first established as a day to honor those who died fighting in the Civil War. It was later changed (after World War I) to a holiday to honor Americans who died fighting in any war.

Memorial Day is not just the last day of a three-day weekend. It not just a day for backyard barbeques. It is not just a day to have a parade. It is not just the unofficial kickoff of summer. Memorial Day is a day for us to remember the sacrifices others made so that we can have those backyard barbeques. Memorial Day is a day for us to say “Thank You” to those who gave their lives so that we could enjoy the freedoms we enjoy today. So tomorrow, take a moment, look at our flag flying high and say “Thank You” to those who have gone before us, who made this day possible, and paid the ultimate price to protect us and our freedom.

Tomorrow, Monday, May 30, is Memorial Day. Coincidentally, May 30th was the original date on which Memorial Day was celebrated. Please join me in honoring the men and women of our armed forces, who over the year, made the ultimate sacrifice for their country, for our freedom, and ultimately for you and me.

May God Bless America and may God watch over the men and women of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Coast Guard who are still fighting for our country and freedom; may he keep them safe and return them to their families soon.

Wethersfield Single Family Home Sales Activity 2003-2011

April 3, 2011

Sales of single family homes in Wethersfield continue at a steady pace. Although closed sales at the end of the first quarter 2011 trailed closed sales at the end of 2010 (37 versus 45, respectively), the 2011 sales activity occurred without the first time home buyer tax credit incentive. Does this signify a return to a more normal market? (more…)

Rocky Hill Condo Market Activity As Of 2/28/2011

March 6, 2011

As the table below shows, the average and the median sales prices in 2011 are below those values for the comparable periods in 2010. This is due to the many changes made in 2010 to underwriting guidelines for both conventional and government loans and the increase in interest rates in early January 2011. (more…)

Fact or Fiction: Are Radon Levels Higher In Vacant Homes?

January 13, 2011

Did You Know…?

A home that is vacant or unoccupied will not have higher radon levels…it’s a myth!

How many times have you heard someone tell you this is the reason for an elevated Radon Test Result?

We often hear that radon builds up over time if a house is vacant and closed up. This is false. The fact is that radon levels reach equilibrium (where the new radon entering the house is offset by the radon that is decaying). This equilibrium is usually reached within 12 hours of a house being closed up. (This is why closed-house conditions must be maintained for at least 12 hours before the start of a radon test.)

Rocky Hill Single Family Home Sales Activity 2003-2010

January 10, 2011

The number of closed sales, and median and average sales prices in Rocky Hill have increased for single family homes in 2010 over 2009 while the average days on market decreased in 2010 versus 2009! As we saw with the Wethersfield single family home market statistics, the First Time Home Buyer Tax Credit incentivized first time home buyers to buy their first homes which then enabled existing home buyers to “move up” and buy larger, more expensive homes at near historic low-interest rates.
